DISPLACEMENT 14,000
80 gallons water (in 2 tanks)
30 gallons fuel
15 gallons holding
Hull number 27 of 35.
This is the nicest example of any S2 of this size. The 35C
last sailboat S2 (Tiara, Pursuit) made before getting out of the sailboat
business. It has very modern lines, a
very innovative layout, and when you combine those things with it’s nearly
perfect (original!) shiny gel coat, everyone who sees it mistakes it for a new
boat!
Extensive Refit 2009.
($750) New battery bank consisting of 4 Trojan T105s totally
over 400 amp hours, with new bluesea bus fuses on every battery cable.
($150) New starting battery for engine
($3500) New kato marine dinghy davits with extra
reinforcements. Will lift dinghy, 15hp
engine, and full (12 gallons of fuel), and all gear without issues!
($1400) New hardwired Xantrex automatic inverter/
charger. Charger is 40amps, inverter is
1800 watts. When you unplug the shore
power, this automatically powers up all the 110v system throughout the
yacht. It will run everything except
the water heater and the central air conditioning system
($3200) brand new seaward propane oven and stove. Converted boat over to propane from CNG,
custom dual aluminum marine tanks (2 tanks total 18 lbs) with dual position
regulator so both bottles are hooked up at once. Has gauges and electric solenoid for remote gas shut off.
Stovetop has been used maybe 4 times, oven still never used!
($2900) new Adler Barbour super cold machine. 12v refrigeration system means you never
have to buy ice !
($2100) new huge Garmin 10.5” chartplotter system. Has charts for all US and new card for
western Caribbean.
($4300) new way oversized below decks raymarine
autopilot. This will steer the boat
better than you can, and in all conditions.
It is interfaced with the chartplotter to take you directly to waypoints
and accommodate for leeway.
($575) new water heater.
Works off shore power, generator power, or through the engine’s cooling
system (automatically gives you hot water when you are running the boat’s
diesel engine)
($8500) major engine service done on the 2001 model 30b3
westerbeke. (30 hp and burns less than 1 GPH) Rebuilt at 1200 hours because of
an unusual (and unfortunate) incident.
Complete rebuild done with new head, new piston rings, all new bearings,
gaskets, valve job, etc, new coupling, had a drivesaver installed, a PSS
dripless stuffing box installed, new 85Amp alternator, lots of new hoses,
belts, etc. a quick-change impeller kit
was fitted, a brand new fuel pump, etc.
($1000) new fuel tank valve, DUAL racor fuel filters (10
micron then 2 micron) with at least 20 spare filter elements on board- which
are about $30 a piece (fuel bowls are still very clean after 200 hours, but
probably because I always use a baja
filter when filling up!) all fuel hose
also replaced at this time. This system
is redundant and overkill, but now this boat will never have a problem with
dirty fuel.
($1900) Raymarine st60 tridata speed and depth instrument at
helm, as well as a second instrument (repeater) at nav desk.
($1400) Icom 604 ultimate VHF with 2 remote stations,
command mic at helm and in aft cabin.

kit onboard.

fully independent emergency high water pump.

marine speakers inside and out)

buy from neil pryde. Cruise plus line
with all options offered. headsail has foam luff. They were just delivered 11/09
($500) new fortress anchor. Expensive but very light anchor with a lifetime warranty. Lots of chain on the working anchor rode
($2800) new bimini and windshield cockpit enclosure. Huge windshield makes for a very dry ride,
made from stratoglass, sunbrella, everything overstitched and heavy duty. I had a new bimini made because I wanted it
to be taller (now 6’2” headroom) and wider.
It was just done in 11/09 by the premier canvas shop in Texas

Bottom job last done in December 2008, much of boat rewired
in 2009, including mast. Almost all
equipment is brand new with very little use.
Rig was tuned 11/09. Very fast cruising
boat. I usually single hand her, and
she has seen 15 foot seas. She points unbelievably well. I have singlehanded
her across the gulf, only hand steering for about 30 minutes over 5 days. The new autopilot is way oversized and will
steer the boat through anything. (on that last crossing I only used 11 gallons
of diesel over 700 miles! Avg SOG
calculated by the gps over the entire 5 days was a very, very impressive 6.5
kts.) She has sailed all over the US
gulf coast, Mexico, and she has been to Cuba.
The private aft cabin is huge, with a queen size bed, sitting area,
double (his and her) hanging lockers.
The swim platform is very nice, with a great swim ladder. The center cockpit makes for a large aft
cabin and a great ‘hangout’ area on the aft deck behind the cockpit. This boat has the very desirable shoal draft
version which makes it perfect for the Bahamas and Caribbean. This boat has more room down below than many
of my friends 40+ foot boats. It is
very comfortable for 2 couples to cruise on (2 private staterooms).
Add up the cost of the equipment (the prices shown for many
of those items does not include the installation, which sometimes can be more
than the piece of equipment!) A small
fortune has been invested into this boat in 2009 refitting and outfitting for
offshore cruising. There is not another
boat on the market that offers so many features and so much equipment for the
same money. A nice 35C will generally
bring between anywhere between $40-60k depending on condition and
location. This one is nicer than any on
the market. Any and all other 35C (or
any other boat of this size) on the market would require the purchase price
($50k) and then an additional $60k+ to put it on par with my boat. Take it from me, refitting and outfitting a
boat to be safe and comfortable in the Caribbean and offshore gets VERY
EXPENSIVE—MORE EXPENSIVE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE !!! Talk to anyone who has done this and they will all tell you the
same story. So here is a unique
opportunity for someone to take advantage of all the hard work and money I have
spent. Get something turn-key for
pennies on the dollar !
This is a no reserve auction. It will sell to the highest bidder unless someone makes a reasonable offer before the auction end.
Inspections and surveys are welcome. If you would like to survey the boat, this should be done before you place you bid- before the auction ends. I am currently land locked 1500 miles away from Key West, but I will assist any way that I can.
S/V Sly is a USCG federally documented vessel. The vessel documentation is free, clear, and in my name. I will transfer it (must be notarized) to the purchaser immediately after funds have cleared. A 10% partial payment required within 24 hours of auction end. The balance must be paid WITHIN 7 days of auction end. If you do not have the funds available, please do not bid. The 10% can be made via paypal or bank wire transfer. The remaining balance may ONLY be paid by bank wire transfer (preferred) or by cash in person. Again, if you do not have the funds available DO NOT BID.
I will also be happy to
deliver her to ANY PORT (for an additional fee, to be negotiated.) Hopefully to somewhere else in the
Caribbean. (She feels most at home floating in that crystal clear water near
white sand beaches and $1 beers.) I
would also be happy to throw in some sailing lessons for any newcomers- or go
through the systems with any old salts.
This is a VERY easy and forgiving boat to sail. She is responsive and difficult to get into
trouble with. Most of the miles under
her keel have been done single-handed.
I have spent over 1 year living aboard and now it is time for a change. This boat has cruised all over the US Gulf Coast, spent a lot of time in Texas- been all over Mexico, Belize, and Cuba. Everything on the boat is still like brand new. The new sails were delivered around Thanksgiving of 2009 have been up only a handful of times- and they were purchased with no expense spared (I looked for the best cruising sails money could buy.) Everything that was done during the refit was above and beyond. Such as the autopilot, huge 10.5″ chartplotter at the helm, the 3 station Icom VHF and intercom system, etc. The list just goes on and on.
The boat is currently located in beautiful Key West, Florida. The marina has floating docks. It is a very nice and safe place. You can stay in the slip as long as you like, with utilities it is under $500 per month. You can also purchase the slip for $119,000. If you choose to go that route, you can claim legal residence as a property owner in FL- no state income tax! The association dues and taxes run under $300 per month total.
What does the boat need right now besides a new owner? Below is a very thorough list of what items I would address if I was to take off on another extended cruise:
1. raw water strainer for the engine needs new cork gasket. The last time I cleaned it out I found the only cork gaskets I had left were the wrong size- and the old one is allowing a few drops of water out. total cost 70 cents and time about 90 seconds to swap it out.
2. in my opinion, the interior should have some touch up done on the varnish work and trim. there are some marks from living aboard and you can see where I have taken some of my personal pictures and frames, etc off the bulkheads.
3. a recent engine inspection revealed a section of rubber exhaust hose that is showing signs of age and should be replaced within the next year or so (probably $80 worth of hose and maybe 20 minutes to replace)
4. when in Belize, the air conditioning water pump failed. I purchased a replacement which is onboard new in the box, but I didnt get around to installing it. access to this pump is easy, I could probably change it in 15 minutes.

if its so great why sell it?

A:
Thanks for the interest.
I purchased and prepared the boat to live aboard and cruise for 1 year.
That had been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I
accomplished it, and now it is time to move on to one of my other
personal goals- such as finishing my pilot license and flying all over
the US and Caribbean in a high performance single for a year? I
honestly believe that the memories I have from my time aboard SLY, the
stories I can tell you from the places we have been- well, I very well
may look back on it as the best time of my life ….. but this chapter
has come to an end. For now at least! Maybe I will revisit the cruising
lifestyle again in some years to come ? Please let me know if you would
like to know if you have any other questions. Many more pics coming
soon.
